The Case for Playing Out in BCP

Adele contacted us at BHAT, and as someone who grew up in the 1970’s and 80’s I was of course in complete support of this initiative. Play Out Streets and School Streets are doubly important at present for COVID era. If you live in BH area you may also remember School road closures?- I was involved in Learoyd Road for Canford Heath Juniors (Now TEACH academy), and Livingstone Road for Branksome Heath Juniors school road closures in late 200o’s. Contact Adele on the email address below, and if you have ideas for School Streets especially in Oakdale or Canford Heath get in touch and we can link you with Cllrs of the area. As mentioned last week, there is a proposal for the first L.T.N (Low Traffic Neighbourhood) in those areas, a school street would massively support this change. Listen below to the Streets Ahead Podcast for lots more details on this. Good luck and get involved!

This weeks Streets Ahead Podcast Episode 7 is on this topic, hosted by three people two of whom have Children of their own, speaking directly from experience about Schools Streets and Play Streets.

Outdoor play and exploration is a fundamental need for children. My previous work with Sustrans 2007- 13 revolved around this. Some photos and clips below from those times. Jason
